New Family Photos
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, we had our photos taken by Tami (Tyler's brother's wife). She has just started her own photography business, Young Photography, and was gracious enough to take our little family's photos. We are so excited with the results!

Gratitude ABC's
A - Armed forces: Although I am not a proponent of war, I am very grateful for our country's military. These service men and women sacrifice so much for the freedoms we enjoy.
B - Books: I love to read. I'm grateful for the places I explore and things I learn while reading a good book. Reading is one of my favorite indulgences and I'm obsessed with books on tape for my daily commute to work.
C - Child: Oh, how I love him!
E - Education: An education is empowering. I'm so glad to have been afforded the opportunity to go to college and get a degree. I'm also grateful for Tyler's education (although an expensive one - it was worth every dime!).
F - Friends: I feel very lucky to have the friends that I do. What more can I say, but "thank you"!
G - Geology: Utah is a beautifully diverse state. From the mountainous region to red rocks and desert - it has everything but the ocean!
H - Health: I've been very blessed to have good health and I don't want to take that for granted.
I - Independence: My parents strongly encouraged independence and self reliance. I'm thankful for those lessons that continue to benefit me today.
J - Jokes: I'm grateful for what good humor, giggling and laughing do to lift my spirits.
K - Kindness: Of all the virtues I want my children to exemplify, kindness is the most important to me. In my own experience, those that have shown kindness to me have impacted my life the very most.
L - Life: I watched the movie, My Sister's Keeper, over the weekend. It was heart wrenching. But it did give me the opportunity to reflect on the frailty of life and remind me to be a better person as I go throughout my day.
M - Motherhood: A new, crazy, exhausting, wonderfully rewarding journey.
N - Neighborhood: We were determined to find a home in Daybreak, because we love the neighborhood. We have made great friends and we enjoy the family friendly atmosphere, making it an ideal place to raise our children.
O - Orthodontia: Although a long and somewhat painful 2+ year experience, I'm thankful for my teeth.
P - Pam: Ryker's nanny. My heart is overflowing with gratitude for her consistent and loving care.
Q - Quiet: I'm not a fan of loud noise. I prefer my home to be relatively quiet where we can find respite and serenity from the ho-hum of daily life.
R - Religion: I'm grateful for the peace and perspective my religion lends me, in all aspects of life.
S - Sister: Hailey and I are five years apart in age. Growing up we weren't close friends, mainly due to our age difference. Now, I find her to be one of my dearest friends. She is the shining star in our family, full of life and energy.
T - Tyler: My best friend. My confidant. My encourager. My supporter. My sweetheart.
U - Unconditional love: My family is an awesome example of unconditional love. I have an immense amount of gratitude to have the family I do.
V - Vacations: Whether a stay-cay or somewhere far away, I'm grateful for the sense of rejuvenation a good vacation provides.
W - Work: I'm thankful for my job and the sense of accomplishment it gives me. I'm also grateful for Tyler's job. His work is by far more emotionally draining, however his is a job of service, helping others improve their life for the better.
X - XOXO: I'm not an overly touchy, feely person. But I do love hugging and kissing my little one. He has the best, most squishy cheeks ever!
Y - You: Thank you for all your encouraging comments, thoughtful advice and compliments. Blogging has brought me back in touch with so many of whom I had otherwise lost touch. I sincerely appreciate your friendship!
Z - ZZZZZ's: I am a good sleeper. I really need a solid night's rest. My baby has changed my sleep regime, so I am even more grateful for sleep than I have ever been.
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Update....
As way of an update for the month, we'll compile a little list:
- I found my keys! Yay! Found in one of my coat pockets....3 weeks later.....
- Ryker will now take formula. So when we are in a pinch, we have a quick back-up!
- I had my first cavity filled last week. What an unpleasant process! I have a lot more empathy for my hubby and his distaste for dental appointments. I have always loved to go to the dentist, because of how clean my teeth felt afterwards. But now knowing the alternate outcome, it isn't such a rewarding experience.
- Ryker is back on his sleep schedule. After a one-month hiatus, he is again sleeping through the night. Go Ryker!
- I had a "me" day last Saturday. It was delightful. I went to Life by Aveda, a spa and salon near our home. I got my hair cut (just below my shoulders) and a massage. One of the best massages I've ever had.
- Tyler put up the Christmas lights on the house and this weekend we'll be decorating the interior.
- And for the grand finale, I came home from work on Monday (Tyler's day off) and found my very large mound of clothes waiting to be ironed, all pressed and hung. Since the season changed, I've had a pile of summer clothes that have set in our laundry room awaiting my attention. This included seven pair of capris, seven shirts, one skirt and two pair of pants. That is embarrassing to admit, but now the ironing basket is empty! I couldn't be more grateful to Tyler, as I really hate ironing!
Wishing you all a fabulous Thanksgiving filled with family, friends and good food. And my favorite tradition of the weekend is the Black Friday shopping. I'm thinking I'll be at Kohl's at 4 a.m. See you there!

The Latest....
And since I became pregnant, my brain is not what it used to be. I'm not a loser (meaning, I typically don't lose things). In fact I can honestly say, I have never lost my keys. Until last week. I don't know where they are. Luckily I have a spare set that is getting me by, but I keep racking my brain as to where they might be. And I am certain, they are not in the 40 pound diaper bag. I have looked.....multiple times. Then over the weekend, I lost my watch. I have no idea where I would have taken it off.
Tyler took this photo, while trying to placate the child and do laundry. It seems to have worked:

You might be fluphobic if ...
You might be fluphobic if ...
By Mary Schmich

(MCT) — The moment it became clear that I was on the verge of a full-blown case of the disease, I was gazing at an ATM keypad.
Was it the relentless media coverage of H1N1? Was it those TV commercials that make germs look like hairy rodents?
Whatever the provocation, with my fingers poised over the money machine, I had a thought: Maybe I should enter my PIN with my elbow.
In that instant, I realized I was coming down with something more widespread than the flu — fluphobia.
Fluphobia is sweeping the nation and inspiring innovative germ-fighting strategies. It has turned the elbow into the most versatile body part since the thumb, though in the case of the ATM, I settled for a knuckle.
The fluphobic person is aware of germ-fighting basics: Wash your hands frequently and well. Cover your sneeze and cough, preferably with your arm, not your hand. Keep your hands away from your face.
But that's not enough for the fluphobe. He or she is an inventor, a contortionist, cleverly deploying the knuckle, the knee, the foot, the hip and the elbow in ways that would impress Cirque du Soleil.
"I always use a sleeve or bottom of a shirt to open restroom doors, ALWAYS foot flush," reported Cheryl Tolcher when I quizzed people on Facebook about their fluphobic practices.
"Push doors are pushed with elbows, side or hip. I sneeze down my shirt."
The line is fine between fluphobia and intelligent caution. The above practices could be signs of either one. So could the following:
You steer the grocery cart with your forearms, not your hands.
You carry your own pen to sign credit card receipts.
You push through revolving doors with an elbow, a forearm or a fist covered in a sleeve you've learned to grasp from the inside.
You press elevator buttons with an elbow, a knuckle or a pen tip.
You open the "L" door with your elbow and grip the bus strap only if you're wearing gloves.
You stock up on Clorox wipes and use them on your roommates' or work-mates' stuff, too, whether or not they want it.
"I now carry waterless liquid cleaner in my purse," wrote Annette Wehrli, "and I have been wiping down everything from doorknobs to car handles to drawer pulls much more often."
A couple of fluphobes in my Facebook survey reported holding their breath. "I hold my breath when someone sneezes in the elevator and get off at the next stop even if it's not mine!" wrote one.
If hand sanitizer is a fluphobe's best friend, paper towels are a close second, especially when exiting a public bathroom.
"Although by using those you identify yourself as crazy," wrote a Facebook friend.
I recently saw a guy at the gym wrap paper towels around the free weights. Napkins also do extra germ-fighting duty.
"At a reception, brunch or other gathering where there's a salad bar or buffet," wrote Beverly Loder, "I keep a napkin in my hand to pick up the serving utensils."
Some fluphobic strategies invite argument. Foot flushing? Isn't that rude to the people who flush with their hands? Holding your breath? The bigger worry is the germs that land on you.
I believe in a cautious though not fearful approach to germs. And yet sometimes bad germs happen to people with the best of knuckles, elbows and intentions. I have the cold to prove it.

Today I Feel...
Grateful: For my sweet, chubby, night owl baby. Even when I am up to comfort him in the middle of the night, I can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for my son. What a blessing he is to our family.
Loved: Tyler continually reminds me how much he adores me. I don't know why, but he does. Last week he told me I should go get a massage, knowing how much I love that little indulgence. I have yet to take him up on this offer!
Frustrated: Our computer is at the doctor AGAIN! It has been there three times in the last month. First for a virus, second to have the ethernet card installed, third because the hard drive is no longer working. We're unsure if the latter is attributed to the virus....I'm pretty sure we have now paid the equivalent to the value of the computer in repairs.
Excited: For Halloween. I love to answer the door-bell and see the little munchkins in their costumes. We decided that next year we need to dress-up. We haven't since we were in college six years ago.....and we had a blast. Party at my house next year!
Grumpy: It is snowing....need I say more?
Anxious: I found furniture for my front room that has been empty since we moved in. Now I just have to convince Tyler that the time is right to go buy it. I told Tyler this is all I want for Christmas....
Emotionally Drained: I'm reading the book, Escape, by Carolyn Jessop. It is an autobiography depicting her life while living in the FLDS polygamous community under Warren Jeffs in Colorado City. The book is captivating and unbelievable, but it is wearing me down. I am so flabbergasted by the oppression and abuse that she details hidden behind the curtain of the FLDS religion. As I read, I have experienced anger, disappointment, fear, sorrow, fortitude, etc. I can't wait to finish this book!

Late Night...

a RedBox rental of this:
and declared it a "late night". I love it when he surprises me with little things. We cozied up on the couch and had some good laughs. And although I fell asleep (as I usually do), it was still a treat! Thank you for thinking of me, sweetie!
